Effect of Long Term CO2 Enrichment on Mineral Nutrient Uptake in Tomato Plants

Abstract
This experiment has examined the change of nutrients in the tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill cv. Kwangsu) with long-term CO©ü enrichment by 800 ppm. The contents of nitrogen and phosphorus significantly decreased in the lower leaves of the CO©ü-enriched tomato plants, while nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium decreased in the upper leaves after 80 days of treatments. Uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium increased in the CO©ü-enriched tomato plants, but absolute concentrations in the whole plant remained the same in the CO©ü-enriched plants and the control. The concentration of phosphorus and potassium in the tomato roots dropped when the CO©ü level was elevated to 800 ppm.
